Illicit drugs

QAAD supports the ACMD recommendation for a review of the evidence on cannabis in 2011, when the results of a large-scale study on cannabis and mental health will be known.  We also support its call for a well-resourced public health campaign.

QAAD has taken a strong concern with treatment issues.  We welcome increased services for those without work but argued against the withdrawal of benefits as a sanction for non-co-operation.   We have also argued for a health and well-being framework rather than one led too strongly by criminal justice.

QAAD has not felt led to take a position on the decriminalisation of illicit drugs.  We recognise the complexity of the evidence, with which we try to keep abreast.
